Numb-Linking park

The song written by Linkin’ Park emphasises the social issues suffered  by girls during their teenage years, showing the stresses and problems during this difficult time. In order to promote the band, the audience can see Linkin Park performing throughout the music video.

The initial shot shown above is visually appearing due to its symmetrical look and attractive background.  The director has chosen to focus on this shot because it is the image shown on the youtube link and will be the promotion for the music video. Furthermore, the shot only includes the protagonist, portraying the isolation of her character, this theme is constantlScreen Shot 2016-09-30 at 09.53.56.pngy shown throughout.

The following shows include close ups of the band and their equipment, pleasing the demands of the record label and further promoting their music rather than just showing narrative.

Following the close ups, a long shot of the entire band is conveyed. It is portrayed from a high angle in order to show the equipment and close proxemics between the band members. A close up of the vocalist is shown .Yet again,The record labels demand have been met.

The next shot within the music video is taken from a school/university, a common setting associated with teenagers. The image suggests the girl has self-harmed, a common but upsetting theme across girls within this age range, suggesting the band is attempting to show awareness. The dark setting, shown through the clothes, instruments and filter is common within the rock genre.

The theme of isolation has been portrayed within the music video using editing techniques. The girl is shown to be left alone by a large group, the director uses fast motion to represent the group leaving. The contrast between the girl with and without the group emphasises the idea of isolation.Screen Shot 2016-09-30 at 10.40.38.png

A metaphor has been conveyed in the next shot, the long shot promotes the proximity between the mother and daughter. We can see the mother being distanced with ‘her back to the daughter’ suggesting she hasn’t been caring for her child symbolically. This is especially effective because  this form of relationship is conventionally a caring/protective one. Additionally, the mother wears black, showing her lack of care using mise-en-scene.Screen Shot 2016-12-16 at 09.58.13.png

Alex Goodwins theory has been showed in the music video through a relationship between visuals and lyrics. Its shown when the vocalist  says the lexis, ‘me’. After this, we can see a close up with the main protagonist, connecting the lyrics to this characters story.

Costume is used to show how the girl is suffering and different. We can see her clothes are darker compared to the rest of the teenagers surrounding her.

The theme of isolation is repeatedly shown throughout the entire music video. An example was shown earlier and has been repeated in school, conveying how regularly isolated  she
feels. Furthermore, editing is used to further promote this idea. Previously, we could see it once but this fast pace shot had been shown numerous times at the end of the music video to suggest she feels more isolated then compared to before. The same idea has been repeated with self harming because it is shown again towards the end of the music video.

Goodwins theory of a relationship between music and visuals is shown again. As the beat drops and the rhythm of the song increases, the teenager is seen performing a swinging action. The fast paced action and song correlate together effectively.

The following shot includes a high angle of the girl running, the distance is important because it portrays her as smaller and becoming less important protagonist. This idea is taken from her perspective because we see a theme of isolation and the idea of her irrelevance throughout the music video. The girl appears confused.  This idea becomes more emphasised using the different camera shots because initially the audience could see a close up of the girl but the cameras position regularly changes.

Godwin’s theory of thought beats have been repeated, during every change in the song, images of the instruments are shown ,connecting the music and genre effectively.
